A Message from Your Superintendent

April 20, 2018

At last night’s School Board meeting, the Board approved the preliminary staffing plan and final student fee structure for next school year. I’m pleased to report that both of these basically mirror what we have in place this year. In other words, we do NOT need to implement budget-related staffing cuts and fee increases, thanks to the District receiving needed funding from the tax referendum that passed in March.

Student fees for next school year can be found at this link. Discounted online registration begins May 1 and goes through June 11. Parents will receive an email with access to the online registration portal.

Last night, the Board also approved a two-year extension of the District’s contract with First Student, our bus provider. We have been negotiating with the company to renew the contract, which will expire at the end of this school year. We have been satisfied with the service First Student provides, as well as with the relatively low price increase brought forth for the next two years (we found it to be competitive in comparison to transportation increases that other districts have been asked to pay). The transportation cost for families will stay the same next year.

As we head into the weekend, I call your attention to two exciting District 57 events taking place: The Lincoln musical, “Guys and Dolls,” is at 7 p.m. tonight and tomorrow at Lincoln. All are welcome to attend this first-rate performance; tickets are available at the door: $4 for students and $6 for adults. On Sunday morning, I encourage you to head to Prospect High School to cheer on the District 57 team competing in Special Olympics. Events begin around 9 a.m.

The last two months of school are always a busy time. We’re proud of our students for their hard work all year and the many ways they are demonstrating all they’ve learned. Thanks for your continued support as we near the end of another successful year.
