Highlights Wellness Admin Procedures
Mount Prospect School District 57 has created a School Wellness and Food Allergy Management Administrative Procedures 2010-2011 manual. The committee creating the procedures consisted of stakeholders from across the district including administrators, parents, nursing staff, teachers, psychologists, and related service staff. Procedures are created with the safety of our children in mind, are aligned with best practices, and are responsive to changes to the Illinois School Code governing public schools in Illinois.
The Illinois School Code has been amended to provide that the State Board of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Public Health, shall develop and make available to each school board guidelines for the management of students with life-threatening food allergies. The Guidelines for Managing Life-Threatening Food Allergies in Illinois Schools, is the document representing best practices with which our District 57 Administrative Procedures manual is aligned. Each school board is required to implement a policy based on the guidelines by January 2011.
Policy 7:285, Food Allergy Management Program was adopted at the January 20, 2011, School Board meeting. Administrative procedures will become effective Monday, January 31, 2011.
