FV Neighbor Earns Grant & Plants Trees
A Mount Prospect neighbor, Terry Franzen, recently received a grant from his employer HSBC Bank for his efforts in environmental preservation. He chose to use that $10,000 grant to plant 23 trees around the perimeter of Fairview School. In a joint effort with the Mount Prospect Park District, the Village Department of Forestry, the Boy Scouts, and Fairview School, Terry will also be planting a grove of trees this May near the baseball fields on the Isabella Street side. Fairview students will also take part in an ongoing tree-banding and measuring project linked to the Smithsonian Museum (“Shout”) to monitor how climate and seasons effect tree growth around the country. We will be working with our Science Coordinator and teachers to determine how this best fits into our FOSS science curriculum to select the grade level to record these measurements. Special thanks to Mr. Franzen! He is a wonderful example for our students and staff. Please see the link below to read more about the project in the Daily Herald:
