Bus Incident

District 57 is aware of the arrest of District bus driver Betty A. Burden, for allegedly operating one of our buses under the influence of alcohol, Tuesday afternoon March 9, 2010. The episode involved Route #11/Bluebird serving Lincoln, Lions Park, and Westbrook Schools. Based upon information received from the police department, Ms. Burden has been suspended without pay and will be recommended for termination at the next meeting of the Board of Education. Ms. Burden has passed each of the random drug tests we require of all of our bus drivers. However, it is clear to us that our trust has been betrayed, and we offer our deepest apologies to the families affected by this incident. We are outraged that our students were subjected to this misconduct, and we are grateful that no one was injured as a result.
