Dear District 57 Families,

Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their recommendations for indoor masking to occur in communities of high transmission. (Cook County’s current community level is classified as low.) Based on this updated recommendation, the most notable changes from my communication yesterday afternoon are that beginning Monday, (1) masking will be optional (rather than recommended), and (2) masks will no longer be required on school buses.  We have been informed that IDPH and ISBE will provide updated guidance to schools in the coming days. Once we have this information, District 57 will communicate any necessary updates to our District 57 Safety and Operational Guidance with parents.

Despite these changes, some students and staff may choose to continue wearing a mask based on personal preference, informed by personal level of risk. We remain committed to maintaining supportive and safe environments within our schools, no matter an individual’s masking choice.

Thank you for your continued partnership, and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

In the spirit of education,

Dr. Mary Gorr,
Superintendent of Schools, Mount Prospect District 57
