A Message from Your Superintendent
Yesterday on the floor of the House of Representatives, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth spoke about the Science Chicks from our own Lincoln Middle School! She explained how the new club built a remote operating vehicle and participated in a March competition at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Rep. Duckworth said that these girls represent the future and the millions of girls around the country who have the ability to achieve greatness in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
We are so proud that this new club at Lincoln has drawn the attention of Rep. Duckworth, and that she is presenting it as an example to her colleagues in Congress. Her message is that our public schools need resources to invest in STEM education and that we must encourage girls to reach their full potential. In closing, Rep. Duckworth asked Congress to "follow the example of the Science Chicks, and support STEM education in this country."
What an honor for our school district to be part of this important conversation! Congratulations to the students who were part of Science Chicks, teachers Sue Milliken and Kathy Veglia and the administrators and parents who have supported this club.
