Superintendent's Message

A Message from Your Superintendent

After the longest winter in recent memory, I'm sure many of you thought this time would never come. But the last week of school has finally arrived! Thank you for your patience with the extra school days that we had to add to the calendar. And thank you for supporting the students and teachers throughout the past few weeks, perhaps the busiest time of the school year.

There has been so much going on -- plays, concerts, field trips, assemblies, fine arts nights, fun runs, Special Olympics, field days, awards ceremonies and, of course, eighth-grade graduation activities. No wonder the last couple months of school go by so quickly! Our students are fortunate to have these and many other opportunities available to them. I thank the staff members who help make it all possible, plus the PTAs and volunteers for their many contributions. One of District 57's best attributes is the solid partnership between our schools and parents.

This Thursday, we will gather with the Board of Education to honor retirees and anniversaries. We thank these valued staff members -- and all of our staff members -- for their dedication and hard work through the years. Please see the list of honorees at the end of this message.

Over the summer, we will work to make sure our buildings are up to date. We will continue to revise curriculum so it meets the all pertinent learning standards. We will train the staff members who are becoming ELA and math content-area specialists. They will assist with staff development as we introduce new curriculum next year. We'll also put the finishing touches on our redesigned website, which will roll out toward the end of the summer. Please follow District 57 on Facebook and Twitter (@dist57) for updates on these and other developments throughout the summer. And if you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to read the spring newsletter.

I hope you have a wonderful summer. I look forward to seeing our students return on Aug. 20.

Dr. Elaine Aumiller
Superintendent of Schools
