Students accept Village proclamation and visit new inclusive park
Our students in the SOAR program and their teachers visited Mount Prospect Village Hall on Oct. 28 to accept a Disability Awareness Month proclamation from Mayor Arlene Juracek. They then stopped by Busse Park at Henry and Owen, which the Mount Prospect Park District recently rebuilt with a focus on inclusion and accessibility. Katianne Olson, Lions Park SOAR special education teacher, said the outing was one of several Community-Based Instructional Trips that the students take throughout the year in order to practice skills in the community. She said the students loved the new playground and gave it rave reviews! District 57 thanks the Mayor Juracek for recognizing Disability Awareness Month and the Park District for creating a gathering space in the community that will provide fun for all.
