Voice Recognition

Dear District 57 Families,

We are grateful to everyone in our large District 57 community who is helping to keep students and staff healthy so we can continue to safely learn in person. This includes our students and families who are vigilant about masking and following the guidelines for isolating or quarantining. This also includes our staff members who bear a great deal of responsibility for applying our Safety and Operational Guidance in the school buildings. Building administrators, teachers, and staff have gone above and beyond to maintain safe and healthy learning environments while simultaneously teaching and engaging students.

One group that deserves special recognition is our nurses. They have been working tirelessly for many months, bearing the huge responsibility of caring for students while also enforcing quarantines and other mitigations. When a child is required to miss school due to COVID, it is disappointing for everyone involved. Unfortunately, our nurses are usually the ones to deliver the bad news, and they are often met with emotional responses. I urge everyone to treat the nurses with the respect they so deserve. Our nurses have accepted their greatly expanded responsibilities and have worked hard to do their part.

We in District 57 are very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, experienced and caring team of school nurses. I ask you to join me in showing appreciation for our District Nurse, Kim Finnerty, and our School Nurses Cathy Bauer, Kelly Brunning, Susie Smith, and Julie Tworek!

As communicated last week, we have updated our student quarantine procedures. Those identified as close contacts to a positive COVID-19 case may be eligible for a modified quarantine period of either seven or ten days. You can find more details in last week’s Superintendent’s Message, as well as in our Safety and Operational Guidance. Please review the guidance to ensure you are up to date. Thank you, as always, for your support and vigilance!

My best,

Dr. Mary Gorr
