Dear District 57 Families and Staff,

Recently, vandalism with racial and anti-Semitic slurs and images was discovered when school was not in session outside of Lincoln Middle School. Additional damage was conducted on the property, including a tipped-over portable toilet. The Mount Prospect Police were notified and the vandalism was immediately removed by District 57 Staff. The Mount Prospect Police are currently investigating this incident. We do not have any evidence that District 57 Students are responsible for these incidents; however, should you have any information to report, please contact them at [email protected] or (847) 870-5650 to assist with determining the individual or individuals who are responsible for this deplorable behavior. Regardless of whether or not the individual/s responsible for these actions are D57 students, their actions impact everyone–students, staff, families, and the community at large.

After similar graffiti crimes were discovered in the Village in January, I shared this communication with District 57 Families, which contains resources to help in having the necessary conversations about this topic. I am disheartened to report another hate incident within our community. Next Tuesday, May 16, the Board of Education will receive a presentation of the equity audit that has been conducted throughout the school year. Included in this report will be recommendations from the auditors. The equity audit will be included in the board packet that will be emailed to families on Friday.

I respectfully ask all District 57 Families to continue having critical conversations with their children about hate speech and actions and the damage they cause. We will continue to reinforce the concept of See Something, Say Something; if students or families are aware of any actions that may compromise the physical or emotional safety of others, they should promptly report it to their child’s principal, so it can be investigated and addressed. A report may also be submitted using this link

Thank you for your partnership and support.
