Becoming a Substitute Teacher

The requirements for substitute teaching are determined by state law and local policy. Mount Prospect School District 57 requires that all substitute teachers hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License. Certified substitute candidates complete an online application to be considered for employment.

Becoming a Substitute Assistant

The requirements for substitute assistants are determined by state law and local policy. Mount Prospect School District 57 requires all substitute assistants to have a high school diploma or GED and to complete an online application to be considered for employment.

Substitute Salary Information

Substitute teachers will be paid $110 for each full day of substitute teaching in District 57 and $55 for each half-day. Once the substitute teacher has worked more than 30 days within the same school year, the substitute teacher will be paid $120 for each full day of substitute teaching and $60 for each half-day. Of this, 9.4% of all earnings shall be sheltered for contribution to the Illinois Teacher Retirement System.

An extended pay rate of $130 per day will be paid to substitute teachers who are in the same assignment for 20 consecutive days of that assignment until the assignment ends retroactive to the first day.

The pay rate for substitute assistants is $11 per hour.
